Cambridge Sports Bar Has Something for Everyone

In Guernsey County’s Cambridge, a favorite gathering point of the community sits as a hub of entertainment, laughter, and cheer. Music pours from its doors every time an individual steps inside. The clean-cut brick exterior reflects the inner character of the structure’s business. Solid hardwood floors, crisply painted red walls, an orderly bar service, and 5-pound hamburgers are just a few of its qualities.
Downtown Arena, formerly known as Shakers Nightclub, brings a big city sports bar feel to a small town. With ten flat-screen TVs in the main room, people can’t miss their favorite game. Even if one takes a break in the restroom, he or she is greeted with another window into the world of athletics.
The proprietors, Eric Schlosser and Damon Fanti, pride themselves on running a family friendly establishment to suit everyone’s entertainment needs. In 1998, Cambridge’s nightclub attracted dancers from all corners of eastern Ohio and the business decided it was time to diversify their patronage. With a renovation that lasted five months, the building reopened as a sports bar and restaurant in May 2010.
Schlosser started as a bartender with Shakers in 1994. He eventually saved enough money to purchase the establishment, and after some discussion, worked out an arrangement with Fanti in the management of Downtown Arena.
“I handle the beverages and Damon runs the food,” Eric says. “I worked construction for a while and wanted something more.”
The second floor helps expand business space and can be used for wedding receptions, private parties, or even standup comedy. Normally though, customers are just content watching the latest game.
“Our customer base is a little more open-minded, and easygoing,” resident author and Arena bartender Tim McAuley says.
