Ohio is a state that is well known for its beautiful landscape.  With around 74 state parks statewide, Ohio offers beautiful scenic hikes, lakes, diverse plant and animal life and much more.  In Noble County, Ohio, visitors are familiar with one of these serene state parks known as Seneca Lake Park.

According to Joe McLaughlin, park manager, Seneca Lake Park is unique and different from other state parks in Ohio thanks to its large lake, seclusion and offering of various outdoor adventures.

“Seneca Lake Park is not unique for just one thing,” he says. “It’s a combination of the various recreational activities we have to offer for the various people that come here.”

Seneca Lake Park offers an array of outdoor activities including fishing, hunting, boating, hiking and a beach for swimming.  Being one of the three largest lakes in Ohio, Seneca Lake Park has its own marina where boats can be rented and stationed.  With 3,500 acres of water and 4,000 acres of land, this campsite is anything but small. Joe says the area offers over 500 campsites and attracts people from all over.

“We cater to a lot of different people here,” he says. “Whether it’s a family or transient folk coming in from across the country, we have something to offer them.”

Joe also made it a point to say that it’s the various people he gets to meet in interact with that makes his job entertaining and worthwhile.

“The families and people that come in and out of here become like family to me.”

Before the plethora of visitors flow in at the beginning of April for the start of camp season, Joe says the park and its seven full-time employees are still busy preparing for the summer, tending to local hunters and fulfilling the various tasks at the park.

“We get a tremendous amount of hunting throughout the offseason,” he says. “There’s always something to be done.  This place can seem like a virtual madhouse sometimes.”

Joe says the area attracts the nature type of all ages because of the wild landscape and the peaceful view of the lake.  Weddings and birthday parties are often hosted at the facilities as well, and according to Joe, there’s not a more beautiful place then Seneca Lake.
